For decades, ADHD has been studied, described, and diagnosed primarily through the lens of boys. Girls with ADHD present differently, masking their symptoms through people-pleasing, internalized distress, and social camouflage, making their struggles invisible to parents, teachers, and clinicians alike. Research shows that boys are three times as likely as girls to be diagnosed with ADHD, and anywhere from three to sixteen times more likely to be referred for treatment. The consequences of missing an early diagnosis are serious and lasting, reaching well into adulthood and shaping every dimension of a woman's life before she ever receives an explanation for why she struggled.
